I have what looks to be a hangnail on my thumb. Usually if I have one, it'll go away in a couple days, but this one has been here for about a week, and there's this bubble-like wound thing right beside the upper corner of my nail - and it hurts sooo much worse than a hangnail. And the bubble isn't full of liquid or anything (gross, I know) it's just like really really swollen very tender bloody skin.

I cut the nail so that it doesn't grow into the bubbly thing, and I've been putting neosporin on it every night, and I tried to drain any pus that could have been in it - but I didn't see any.

I have a doc appt on Friday, so yeah I know "Go see a doctor" common response, but I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had this? Or if anyone even knows what I'm talking about.

Having been a landscaper, I've had all sorts of things stuck under the skin of my hands. Nothing I ever had sounds like what you describe. I am also a hairdresser, so I learned to do manicures as well. It also gives me no clue to what you've got there. Although, it sounds a little like you've got something under your skin that isn't infected (good job on using the antibiotic ointment!) I'd be interested to know what you find out on Friday.
Hmm...could it be a seed wart? That sort of sounds like those, which I've had, but those don't hurt. Good luck.

It sounds like an insect may have laid eggs under your skin. This is very common and the doctor will have no problem removing them. To prevent them from hatching before your appointment, you can hold your finger in ice water for at least 30 minutes, 3-4 times a day (the more the better, I would recommend 3 as a minimum). This will keep the eggs in a dormant state and unable to hatch.
