I have a Top 5.

5. Giant. Hair rock. Their leader, Dann Huff, is one of the most sought-after studio musicians in rock and country (yes, really). Best album: Last Of The Runaways
Best songs: US Top 20 single I'll See You In My Dreams, Without You, Don't Leave Me In Love.

4. The Bears. Lyrically smart rock band featuring high vocal harmonies and guitars from Adrian Belew.
Best album: The Bears.
Best songs: Fear Is Never Boring, None Of The Above, Not Worlds Apart, Honey Bee, Superboy.

3. Jon Butcher. Blues/rock which suddenly got mainstream sensible without losing its roots in 1987, and Jon's sincere vocals suddenly shone through.
Best album: Wishes. Best album of this list.
Best songs: Life Takes A Life, Holy War, Goodbye Saving Grace,
Send Me Somebody, Live Or Die
2. Thunder. Hard rock from England. They have been bringing it loud since 1990, and their songwriting impresses.
Best album: Back Street Symphony
Best songs: Don't Wait For Me, Love Walked In, Laughing On Judgment Day, 'Til The River Runs Dry.

1. The Brandos. Bad luck with record companies after 1986 hasn't soured their sound or their international fan base.
Best album: Honor Among Thieves
Best songs: Gettysburg, Hard Luck Runner, Gunfire At Midnght, The Solution, Contribution
