I was watching Judge Judy today and I thought that if this show was pitched twenty years ago network execs would have laughed their heads off. I also don't think we would be watching poker on TV 20 years ago.

Oddly enough, most of them.

Keep in mind, a news show at 11:30pm was unheard of until the Iranian hostage crisis gave birth to Nightline.

24hr cable news coverage was scoffed at until CNN became the worldwide source for coverage of the Gulf War and Tiennemen Square (pls excuse the spelling which I assume is wrong).

Obviously every single reality show idea would get you fired on the spot. Queer Eye for the Straight Guy is another no-brainer.

"24" might actually get that response. I'll venture that the new "Aliens in America" wouldn't have gotten past pitching either.

Actually they wouldn't have laughed at Judge Judy 20 years ago because People's Court was on back then so courtroom tv shows were not out of the question.

The Peoples Court first was shown on TV in 1981. Ironically enough the judge when it first began was Judge Judy's husband.

How about I was scanning thru ESPN channels one day and they were having a Rock Paper Scissors tournament! It was the real deal w/ announcers, sponsors, and a cheering audience!!! I felt embarrassed for everyone associated with it!
