A user here said in the 1st Round , the wild card can never play a team that's in the same division. True? False? _I never knew that! What's the rationale behind this rule?

Correct, a wild card team cannot play a team in the same division. The wild card team would play the team with the most wins of the other two division winners.

True. Look at the AL at the moment. Currently the Boston Red Sox have the best record in the AL, and the New York Yankees hold the wild card spot. If the playoffs were to begin today, the Yankees would go to Cleveland, and Boston would be hosting the Angels. Wild card teams are not to play their division winner in the first round.

Currently the standings are after 09/18/07:
1.Boston 90-62
2.Cleveland 89-62
3.Anahiem 89-62(tie breaker goes to Cleveland, won the head to head with Anahiem)
4.Yankees 87-64, have a 4.5 game lead on Det for the wild card.

Yes, the wildcard team never matches up with the champion of its own division.
