I am trying to do the chewbacca sound. I am able to sound a little bit like it by vibrating my tongue against the roof of my mouth , or against the top row of my tongue and letting out an "ohhHH " sound as i do it but it seems like im missing something. Everyone tells me its something like I need a vibration in my throat. Help chewbacca experts.

One of my colleagues at work is able to do it and it is phenomenally accurate! All that I can describe to you is that he opens his mouth, his top lip goes right and his bottom lip goes left and he basically "moans" ("ahhHH" rather than "ohhHH"). When he does this he is able to get the back of his mouth (where it joins his throat) to vibrate when he does it just right. When he gets the pitch of the moan right, it sounds just like the classic Chewbacca sound.
He told me a funny story about when he was in High School. He used to come to class late, knock on the door and when the teacher asked who was there, he would do the Chewbacca sound from outside the door and crack up the whole classroom!

My daughter can do a pretty good imitation of Chewbacca. However, the sound used in the movie was the blend of a number of large mammals, most notable grizzly bears.
