The official U S figure including foold and energy is currently at about 4.0% on Excluding food and energy 2.5%. Personally, I think the government likes to lie a lot. I believe the real rate is somewhere between 5.5% and 6.5%. In order to determnine the real rate of inflation one needs to keep a record of ones expenses. My health care insurance increased 25% this year. My property taxes increased 50% this year. A gallon of milk increased 30% this year. 2.5% is BS.

The US (anualized) inflation in 2007 is as follows:
jan: 2.08%
feb: 2.42%
mar: 2.78%
apr: 2.57%
may: 2.69%
jul: 2.36%
aug: 1.97%

This rate is lower than 2006 (3.24% on average) and 2005 (3.39% on average).

I believe that the rate of inflation will get worse over the next 5 years mainly because of Fed policy (lowering interest rates, when inflation is still relatively high). As a result dollar will fall further against Euro.

Too bad you're wrong. Food and energy are included in inflation statistics. It is a misconception that they are not.

Take a look:
http://www.bls.gov/cpi/cpiqa.htm

So-called "core-CPI" excludes food and energy costs. You can consider it if you like, but it is not the official measure of inflation.
