A family member recently announced that she's pregnant...apparently by artificail insemination, (she's unmarried with two kids already). What I'm wondering is, when one goes through the whole process, how long does it usually take, and when you're going through treatments is it wise to drink and party? She convienantly announced this after she hooked up with some guy in July. I think that she's saying she went and got artificially inseminated instead of getting pregnant by this guy she doesn't even know! Any info on the whole process would be great! I love this family member, but I think she shouldn't lie to her family.
Thanks!!!

I am going to be honest - It is not your place to judge her. If you love her - support her.

The AI cycle takes at least a month, usually longer because a fertility center does a blood workup, physical exam, etc. The cycle can be done with or without fertility drugs. Often times they actually place you on birth control pills for a cycle or two to start regulating your cycle, then give you drugs to allow your egg(s) to grow and then another drug to induce ovulation, etc. This is all besides the search for and approval of a sperm donor. As with natural attempts to conceive, one should never intentionally drink or do drugs while going through AI. To do so is irresponsible and very potentially harmful to the conceived child.

Maybe she got so much flak after her first two kids that she doesn't want to talk about it. Judge not lest ye be judged.
