NO. Absolutely not. My family members and the truck drivers my mom works with (she is a driver too, not a hooker lol) are constantly borrowing my books. I have all seven, and I swear to god: There was almost literally a line at my door waiting for me to finish my book so the next person could borrow it! Adults love the books. Thy were originally aimed toward children, they were quite popular with my classmates in 4th and 5th grades, when the 1st and 2nd books came out. Now they have gotten more intense, a little violent, and they have got some language. They are for everybody! It is just as natural for a nine year old to read them as it is for a ninety-nine year old!
In fact, over the last month before the final book came out, my whole family would gather together each night and listen to my mom and dad take turns reading th books aloud (in order) to us. We range from ages 3-61.

I don't think the books are silly at all. The first two are perhaps a bit more childish than the rest of the series, but that doesn't make them any less engaging for an older reader. I am 23 myself and think they are excellent books, and far superior to the films. I was talked into going to the release party for the last book and was amazed by the variety of people that came, people of really every age, from the very young to the very old and everyone in between. And they were all really excited about the book. They are all a lot of fun to read and very absorbing, even as the themes grow darker as the series progresses. You should definitely give them a try.

Something that you have to keep in mind is that the author did write these books to be aimed at a certain audience (I'm sorry folks, but books 1-4 ARE aimed at children :p). Reason behind the earlier books being aimed at children is because they were written for her own child. Does this mean that you wouldn't enjoy them? Hell no! They're fantastic, for any age; however, keep in mind that sometimes you might giggle at silly things. She writes in a very clever way sometimes, and it might make you feel like a little kid. :)
Once the books flew off the charts in sales and popularity, I'm sure that she thought about how she could write them to adhere to more than one audience. I think that her writing takes on a much more serious tone as the books go on, which isn't a surprise in the least (once you read the content).
All in all, have fun! And, read whatever the hell you want! Picture books, touch and feel books, thick literature books, the Bible...man, reading EVERYTHING can really add a lot to your life. Again, have fun!

Yes, definitely worth reading. If you liked the movies, then you'll love the books. The movies are just skeletons of the books, only showing the main points, and leaving out all the meat of the stories. I'm 24 and have read all of the books multiple times. I wouldn't really call the books silly either. They are very good and well told stories. I highly recommend that you at least give them a try. I'm pretty sure that you'll be hooked after the first one.

I'm 24 and I am a fan of harry potter books. The books are very different from the movies and I can assure you that they are better. The amusing thing in Harry Potter is the imagination. There are a lot of contraditions in the stories and ... but as you read it you come to think that everything is possible in this world and you can do whatever you wish. I also suggest you to listen to the audio books read by Jim Dale. It is just fabulous and you can't help loving it.

i am 16, so still a child, but i read a few fairly serious books and have done since i was much younger. i really enjoyed harry potter and so did my mum, grandma, aunty.... i think if you enjoyed the movies then the books are definately worth reading. most of my friends prefer the books. i don't normally read those types of books either but i found them very good.
i recommend you do read them. you might be surprised how serious they can actually be in some parts. i wouldn't call them silly anyway. i hope you enjoy them if you do decide to read them- what kind of person would you be anyway if you had never read harry potter =)

I think you'd enjoy the books very much.
They are a lot better than the movies. I read the books and just MARVELED at the extent of the author's imagination. They are very well written and, especially in the later books, have a lot of meaning - both obvious and not. Believe it or not, I wouldn't really call them "silly". If you still have an imagination and still have a tiny bit of child left inside you, these are a perfect read. I'm older than you, would consider myself a "serious grown-up" and loved the books.

I am 47. I loved the books. If you liked the movies, you will love the books. They are so much more detailed and complete. Kid's literature should not be discounted simply because it's kid's literature. Imagination is great at any age and HP is full of imagination and presented in such a way that you lose yourself in the magical world it creates. You begin looking for Platform 9 3/4. Definitely - pick up Harry Potter and enjoy!

I have found that those of us who really loved the books went or are going through withdrawal from them. They are quite extraordinary. They start are more for children, but as Harry grows, so do the books. I am a lawyer, a male and so many men and women I work with have read the books. You are lucky, you still have them to read.
