Ok first Dell computers explode and the customer service is atrocious, you have to give them a long list of number before they will even talk to you and even then it is barely considered English. Apples are overpriced versions of a PC, there is no local repair facilities for them because the are designed to be almost completely proprietary and they are software compatible with almost nothing. All computers have there problems and buying a computer either notebook or desktop will heavily depend on what you are using it for. If you need it to be cheap and you are in the market for a notebook, look at Acer, Acer has been around for much longer then you think and were key developers in some of the high quality devices you come to love in most computers, although these machines are terrible for gaming they are great for multimedia and basic business use and they usually come with a generous hard drive, if you are buying a Desktop, I would contact a local computer custom shop to build you one based on your needs, not only will you only pay for the things you need but because yoru computer will be built from individual components, yoru warranties will be for a far longer amount of time (usually double), my local shop qouted me 1500 for a tower ecluding monitor that offered incredible peripherals (quad core, dedicated video, external sound card) being as yoru needs will most likely be far less then this your computer would cost far less to build. The rumor that computers go out of date the minute you buy them is true and buying a premade computer from your local wallmart or best buy is a good way to ensure you that you will never be able to upgrade to something nicer without buying an entirely new computer.

Have one custom built by someone that you know who knows all about computers. I had an awesome computer built for less than 1000 bucks and it would have cost me almost 4000 at Dell!
