i got scammed! one of those d*** popup ads saying that for security purposes i needed to download DRIVECLEANER. like a d*****ss, i hit ok. but before i ran or saved the file, i got skeptical, apparently too late, so i canceled and thought it may not have downloaded. guess it did, b/c now my nortonantivirus is saying that it found a *HIGH RISK* virus - drivecleaner - but my subscription ran out. my dad renews it, but im scared by tomorrow, its gonna do some damage to my computer!!! PLUS, my computer wont even shut down now. when i go to turn it off, the norton thing keeps popping up, and wont allow me to shut down. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I got hit by that stupid thing too.
Just unplug your computer, then reboot it, empty your cache memory, then go to add/remove programs and see what new programs are loaded on your computer that you don't recognize.
Just because you don't recognize it does not mean it isn't needed and wasn't there before, like a sub-program for some other function that you actually do need.
So, do some analyzing and erase the one(s) that "drivecleaner" added to keep booting up and selling you with popups.
good luck. they're a real pain in the butt.

Did your Norton Antivirus come on a CD? If yes, you can insert the CD into your drive and reboot. Norton Antivirus then will start your computer and run a scan.
Also, you can use Trend Micro's Housecall free online virus, spyware and malware checker. Go to: http://housecall.trendmicro.com and click on scan.

DriveCleaner is a special rogue-program for system cleaning and diagnostic. DriveCleaner use browser security holes and installed without your consent while you surfing web (most often adult or games websites).Often DriveClenaner comes with other malware. Once installed, this application will load on every Windows startup and displays false information about security and privacy problems on your computer. Also DriveCleaner frequently launches pop-ups that look like system errors.

It will be ok :)
1. Go to http://www.grisoft.com.
2. Type "FREE" in the search box at the very top
3. Download and install the FREE antivirus software.
4. Run the software, and it should find and get rid of the virus.
Good Luck!

First relax, its fixable.
Download a good malware cleaner, AVG by Grisoft is free, and pretty decent. Run it.
There are some free Drivecleaner removal tools out there. One of them is:
http://www.spywareremove.com/removeDriveCleaner.html
I would say be careful what you click on next time, but I think you already got that lesson...:)
