Unusual brown discharge, few days late, negative test.?

I am a few days late. This morning I discovered that I had an unsual brown discharge, just a little, instead of blood. I immediately took a pregnancy test and it showed negative. I am just worried. I did not have intercourse whatsoever but I did dry humped with my boyfriend last week. I was naked but he had shorts and underwear on. He didn't ejaculate. I don't think I am pregnant but I would love to know what is this brown discharge? Is it normal?

Also, I am not on pills whatsoever. I'm all clean.

Brown discharge usually indicates "old blood". This may be caused from the uterus not completely shedding the products of menstruation, minor vaginal or cervical trauma during intercourse, hormonal imbalances, etc. I get this a lot when I don't take my bith control pill at the same time every day or when I miss a tablet (due to nausea and vomitting).

Vaginal brown discharge could also indicate an infection, consequently a pap smear may be recommended to determine the type of infection you may have (if you have one).

If you continue to experience this type of discharge and pregnancy is ruled out, I would recommend to have an evaluation by your doctor to rule out any underlying disorder or problems.

It could be your period starting, wait a week, and take a test.

It is normal when someone (if they have that as part of their period) is starting or ending their period. So it could be that your period is soon to come.
