America isn't losing itself to liberalism or conservatism (in the sense in which they are currently used).
America's main problem at the moment results from the arrogance of our leaders and their ignorance of the laws of cause and effect. This is not a Democrat or Republican problem, but a bipartisan problem. The Democrats fail to recognize that their economic policies destroy the economy. The Republicans fail to recognize that their foreign policy destabilizes the Middle East and causes terrorist attacks (a phenomenon known as "blowback").
This, and the bipartisan support for a policy of currency debasement through the Federal Reserve (the same type of policy that killed Rome), is going to slowly kill our country if not reversed (and most of the answers lie in our past, with the original intent of the Constitution).

there are many ways to compare Americas slide into debauchery to that of the downfall of the roman empire, they were destroyed from within by a lack of morality, the liberals will be content to be overrun by our enemies, conservatives stand up and fight, libs try to reason with rogue nations, the fact is a substantial percentage of the military consists of conservatives, what does that say about libs? I despise ultra libs...so ignorant so naive in regards to complex international security issues.

Yes.
I believe while their hearts tend to be in the right place (at least I think their hearts are in the right place), their compassion could bury this country into the ground.
Not to mention I'm getting tired of their whole "free speech is OK as link as I agree with you" mentality.
***I'm not one to attack people personally on the boards, but Gary, I find your statements hardly credible. If you believe so much in what you state, I don't think you'd be setting all your questions and answers to private and shutting down any source of contact available. You're just a 'troller with a picture of an angry man who likes to bash on conservatives. That's not to say you're the only one. But you're the worst I've seen.

The rest of the world finds this hilarious. We are among the least liberal of the industrialized nations. And many liberal values are exactly what conservatives claim as their most important tenets. You know not of which you speak.

Look at this definition:
Broadly speaking, liberalism emphasizes individual rights and equality of opportunity
Now, how could THAT cause America to "lose" itself? Aren't those two of the very reasons that "America" (the United States) exists?

Why are some people so afraid of moving away from conservatism? Because they've been told to fear any liberalism or socialism. Look at our closest allies in the world, the United Kingdom... They are way more socialist then we are. Why aren't we so afraid of them? Why are we so afraid to become like them just a bit?
This question is setup to assume that any liberal idea is just plain wrong, stupid, immature or dumb. It's not. Your minds are closed.

in my never was and never will be humble opinion, america is losing/has lost herself to selfishness, greed, technology and a lack of concern/compassion for one another....and i don't believe these things are limited or defined by political parties or inclinations.

Neo-liberalsim is very dangerous to the American body politic. With money from powerful lobbyists like Geroge Soros, they are a very dangerous force opposing traditional American values. But I believe most Americans are smart enough to not be taken in by their lies.

This country was FOUNDED on Liberalism. The Liberal thing to do in 1776 was to secretly support independence & stage a rebellion against the tightly controlled leadership.
Every 100+ years or so, the country's basic political opinion switches for the long term. This is actually a good thing, since it keeps each of the main two political philosophies in check. America has never been "lost" yet, and in fact I believe that, in certain ways, America is more united than ever. A large majority of Americans are against the war in Iraq, yet are rallied around defending our country from those who hate us.
Liberalism is not hurting America, nor is Conservatism. Only those who cannot think for themselves, and let so-called "pundits" tell you this are of any real harm, because lies are one of the biggest dangers to society.
