After enquiry with the Japan Tourism Board, we've decided to visit Tokyo instead of Osaka for 7 Days in Nov 2007. (2 Adult and 2 Children - 5 years old and 7 years old )

Where to go and what to do?
Which Hotel is good, clean and cost effective.
How to travel from 1 location to another location, Cost?

Can anyone suggest a good 7 days itinery? If possible, please advise the cost including Transportation for Adult and Children.

Thanks.

Do you still have time to reconsider? Osaka is very close to the beautiful cities of Kyoto and Nara, and there are things to do in Osaka, too.

Tokyo is basically Urban Jungle and Disneyland.

That said, I really enjoyed my stay in Yokohama -- there were beautiful buildings, lots of museums, and Disneyland was not too far away. Check out the department craft stores like Tokyu Hands -- sometimes they have craft lessons for kids. Also, check with the Tokyo Gov't website for special festivals and events for children. Many are free.

If you are in Tokyo around Nov. 15, do go to Meiji Jingu, which will be celebrating 7-5-3. You'll see boys 5 and 7 years old, and girls 3 and 7 years old, dressed up in their nicest clothes, going to pay their respects. It's really lovely! And since your kids are 5 and 7, definitely worthwhile!

Hope that helps. Yahoo Travel should have some good tips, too. The Japan National Tourist Organization also has good info.

Honestly I would reconsider especially if this is your first trip. Tokyo is fun but it also is really just another big city. If you're looking for more traditional Japan minus the tall office buildings and Starbucks you're better off going to another city. Do you have time to go to both cities?

Public transportation is very easy and you can travel to anywhere in the city with a metro pass. An all day adult pass if I remember correctly is about 700 yen and a childrens pass about 350.

As far as hotels go, I recommend picking out a few based on price and where you want to stay and check on reviews on tripadvisor, etc. Most hotel rooms in Tokyo are small but usually well equipped.

As far as places to go, here are some suggestions: Tokyo Tower (~800 yen for adults), Imperial Palace (tours are free but must register ahead of time), Tokyo Disneyland, Dome City (amusement park and baseball stadium)

They have Disneyland Toyko if your interested :)

Maybe you can see Toyko Tower, see sumo wrestling, visit a shrine. Catch the bullet train :-) See a Japanese play.

There is plenty to do in Toyko.
