We really can't judge anyone, but we can't deny that Britney invokes images of scandals and sex and sluttiness. Surely you wouldn't want your daughter to be associated with such, even by name. There are lots of other names to choose from. :)

Not if you spell it right. Brittany. Besides, Britney Spears will be totally and profoundly forgotten 10 years from now.

I'm 38, and I look at the record collection I've spent the first half of my life amassing, and I realize most of the kids I work with have never seen a record album, only CDs.

The name Brittany will outlast the most famous idiot of today who has it.

Yes. Even if she was not acting like a nut, say she had hypothetically stayed ontop, the name would still be useless for our kids. Because Britney will forever be associated with Britney Spears. For example, my name is Pamela. Guess what everyone calls me..Pamela Anderson or Pam the cooking spray. Its liveable really, so its up to you rather or not to use it. Even with time it will still have the association though. My son's name is Damian. Of course everyone 13 or older associates it with Damian from the omen. Even before the remake, people keep the bad innuendo from cultural icons, despite say 3000 years of good meaning before this movie. I say britney is gone.

i don't think so, but she's actually the only Britney I've ever seen spell her name like that. I'm used to Brittany, like Brittany Murphy, but she didn't tarnish the name and that spelling seems to be more popular anyway, so i'm sure there will still be a lot of Brittanys. But as for Britneys, i'm not really sure...

What hasn't she tarnished? If you name a baby a famous name the problem is, whether you did or not, people will assume that you named it after that person. I knew a girl whose sister was names 'Madonna' and her parents didn't even like Madonna they just liked the name but everyone assumed they were huge fans. Celebrity names should probably be avoided, even the good ones.

Hopefully not for long, But I don't imagine people will be naming their baby girl's Britney until this thing blows over.

It is very sad to watch her melt down. I don't think any human become an icon and have each moment narrited and pictured. Most of us wouldn't want our mishaps known.

I am in favor of stars that can balance their real lives with their private lives and don't need the Media to define them.

I have great respect for Jody Foster & other stars that keep their real lives out of the public eye.

The name is so over-popular that a single celebrity can't hurt it that much.
Honestly- I have NEVER like the name Britney/ Brittany/ Britni/ Britaineigh/ Brittney- but it's common enough that I have seen all of those spellings in person, and probably some others too.

Well people will always associate the name "Britney" with the popstar which probably wouldn't be a good thing. "Brittany" is such a nicer spelling anyway, it's not so harsh sounding or looking.

Nope. "Britney" is even still my favorite spelling of the name. Just because one Britney went crazy doesn't mean they all will.
