What are some reason to adopt from a shelter rather than a pound?

Usually pounds are government operated and will kill the animals after a certain amount of time has passed. If you see an animal you want at a pound and it is adoptable, take it right away.

Shelters do sometimes rescue animals that the pounds are set to kill, and they keep them alive, and usually get them veterinary treatment before finding them good homes.

Any of them are good choices to save lives, and find the love of your life. Remember, when adopting animals that they live long and you are making a lifetime commitment when you adopt. Please get your pet neutered, so there won't be so many unwanted animals sent to pounds and shelters. If you want another, please adopt a pound or shelter animal.

It is actually better to adopt from the pound as they only have a week to live at the most if not adopted. A shelter sometimes will keep the pets longer and will actually try to find homes or foster homes for their pets. I have heard that some also don't kill their animals. On the other hand from my experience i adopted a cat from the pound (on the day she was going to be put down) for $170 while the shelter sells them for $50. I think the extra money was worth it!

shelters take the animals to the vet and get all their shots and they are then "fixed" whereas pounds don't do either. that's basically the only real difference

there is essentially no difference other than who owns them.

pounds are municipality owned & SPCA's & Humane Societies are privately owned. pounds may kill more than the other 2 so that would make them a little more needy
