About 12 thousand years ago some natural catastrophe or other prompted the 4 Celtic tribes to head West. Their progress can be mapped by the building of large burial mounds called Curgens.
They spread out into India and Turkey as well as Europe. The tribe that ended up in Germany were called Arians.
During the 30s, the Nazis sent out archaeological teams and scientists to take racial particulars of the various peoples around the world, as well as to grab their artifacts (See Indiana Jones, you get the idea). One of the main reasons for this was to discover the origins of the Arian race, which Hitler was convinced, due to a popular theory of the time, was Atlantis. He believed that his people, coming from Atlantis, were surperior racially, morally and technologically, to other races.
In short, he believed a suedo science (Think Scientology) and went about proving the racial superiority in film, science and eventually war.

From idea of Teutonic Knights as said this could be one source. There were also people in 19th century who espoused ideas of white supremacy forget names. The was on particular one who suggested that whites were the true originators in Africa or elsewhere maybe has a sunken continent. Then there was that nasty German who put forth the idea in 19th century that some people were superior and others were of lower orders subhuman unstermensch then the next catagory less but still inferior and finallt the master race. think name of German Lundtz.possibly America influenced by this man if ideas translated though supremacy beliefs already their could add to them help give impetus to Manifest Destiny ideas in U.S. 19th Century

Like most of his racial theories he swiped it. The idea of Slavic inferiority would seem to date back to the crusade against the old pagans by the people that would one day be the Prussians. Nazis and the related groups used a lot of imagery that emphasized the old religious orders. Then add in the direction that most inventions and modern practices flowed across Europe with the stock hatred that most people have for their neighbors and all of a sudden they're sub-human.
