I think its already gone down. It was pretty close to the moon, but lower on the horizon (to the west).

That's two different questions. Jupiter is _always_ visible from space, provided another solar system object isn't blocking the view. Jupiter currently is visible in the southwest from California in the early evening, from around sunset till about 10:30 p.m., but it's setting a few minutes earlier every night, and will soon be gone until next year.

In San Francisco, Jupiter tonight (9/19) rises at 13:14, and set 22:47 (local time). Of course u should watch it after sunset.

yes. it is visible from sunset until about 10pm. during sunset it's in the sw part of the sky. at about 12am, mars rises. it's currently directly over orions head, which also rises at about midnight. there's also a red giant star above orion but it's not as bright and red as mars. mars is more toward the east (left). and right before sunrise, venus is super bright in the east. Saturn is also there during sunrise but it's not very bright at all

Yes. If you have a space in California, you should be able to see Jupitor from it.
