Remove the cap still smell like fuel run it! Smells like what you would put on wood remove the gas tank properly dispose of the old fuel and change the filter. Most the time gasoline stored in car tanks does not go bad even two years as long as the tank was close to full. Fuel oxidizes and looses it's octane when exposed to air and as long as it still smells like gasoline you'll be alright just refuel soon.

Gasoline does not really go bad unless it is exposed to the atmosphere and then it absorbs water and evaporates. In the confines of the gas tank it is in a sealed environment.
What you can do is get a two gallon gas can and fill it with new gas and a bottle of throttle body/carburetor cleaner and pour this in the gas tank. This mixes things up a bit and the carb/throttle cleaner will begin the process of dissolving and mixing things up again.
If someone [ayed "gas pump" with the car while it sat and stuck the garden hose in it or something else then it would need to be drained. The old gasoline woul dhave to be placed in a large metal container like an old 55 gallon drum and burned. Otheriwse you'd have to go through a proper EPA disposal company to get rid of the gasoline.
Good Luck!

Have the tank taken off and drained because it is probably not gas anymore and could do serious damage to your engine.
