When a slope is negative... say... the slope is -5/2. Would it be DOWN 5 RIGHT 2, or DOWN 5 LEFT 2? I don't get it. thank you beforehand for answering

it could be either one
it depends on if the 5 is negative or the 2 is negative
I am assuming your 5 is negative so then it would be down 5, right 2 because the 2 has to be positive and when moving right along the x-axis is positive.

just remember rise/run

Down 5 to the right 2.

Look, it's really simple. Here's the rule: most lines cross three quadrants, unless it crosses zero. If the line is in both Quadrant 1 and 3 out of the three, then the slope positive. If the line is in both quadrant 2 and 4, then the slope is negative.

Here's a digram for the location of 4 quadrants:

2 | 1
------
3 | 4

the vertical line (up-down) is y axis, and the horizontal line (left-right) is x-axis.

to answer your question. Since your slope is negative 5/2. So it's in either quadrant 2 or 4. Assuming you are starting from the orgin, so it's either down 5 right 2 or up 5 left 2.

slope is always in the form RISE/RUN

that means its the change in the y-axis divided by the change in the x-axis.

if both numbers are positive, then the y axis moves up and the x axis moves right

so a slope of -5/2 would mean down 5 and right 2

or up 5 and left 2.

its the same answer really

"Slope is easy. Slope is fun.
Just remember RISE OVER RUN."

So in this case, you would rise -5, or in this case drop 5 (subtract 5 from the Y coordinate) and run 2 (add 2 to the x-coordinate). DOWN 5 RIGHT 2.

Also, you ALWAYS run to the right.

down 5, right 2. cause the 2 is positive, so you go to the right. plus if you put it on a graph, if you go down 5 and to the right, it makes a negative slope

Remember, it's rise over run.

Rise is always either up or down....run is always to the right. It should be easy enough for you to remember. When you run in real life, do you run up or down? No, but you can run to the right...

So in the case of -5/2...you would rise (go down 5) and run 2 (go right 2).

u always go right...the negative or positive is from the rise not the run..other wise the graph would be positive...so down 5 right 2
