To live of course. Anything that involves change or movement requires energy and that includes cellular organisms.

There are many chemical reactions that take place in the body, that although they are required to live, take energy to do so. They are otherwise known as "endothermic" reactions. So, in order for us to live, and keep our body producing these necessary chemical reactions, we need energy...
