take 8 and 21 as symbols
then you got

y=821

There is no decrease sign necessary. If you are dealing with an equal sign, you cannot replace it with the increase or decrease sign.

When you need to use the increase or decrease signs, you will know because they will be provided for you in the equation.

Having said this, y = 8 + 21

Add 8 and 21 and this equals 29

So y = 29

y=8+21 is

y=29 which is

29=8+21

so see no increase or decrease sign necessary
