If your are getting $7.00 an hour, it is because you possess commodity skills which any untrained person will also possess. Since you are competing with every other person with commodity skill sets, employers will pay the lowest wage they can get away with for jobs that are unskilled..

Your situation is no different from others. When I was young, I made $1.00 an hour and the government taxed that. A theater usher and being a waiter were not high skill jobs. My employers did not provide health care.

supply and demand. why do you think they don't stop the illegal invasion both from mexico and asia? the greater the supply and less the demand the lower the price of the job. it works with commodities too the greater teh supply and less demand the lower the price.

so I don't care it you work yourself to death if you can't fill jobs with more demand then supply you will always be underpaid for your sweat and tears and hard work and sacrifice.

I believe everyone deserves a fair wage (in unskilled jobs) simply because you are expending time, energy and effort to do the job even if hard, because that is your life your expending (taking you away from doing other things you would rather be doing or keeping you from getting the training you could otherwise get if you didn't have to work) and it deserves more than just 7 dollars an hour.

trouble is corporations don't care about justice or fairness but rather about profit, and the more employees available for the job the less they have to pay and the more profits they will make, you can bet your bottom top and middle dollar that just because the company pays less in wages that that translates into lower cost of the good or service. that savings is not passed on to the consumer. not unless supply is greater than demand and that will lower it, but not because they got you to produce the good at less wages.

President Bush recently signed a minimum wage increase to $5.85 it goes up again on July 24Th to $6.55 and the next year to $7.25. What typically happens is that most businesses that pay a little more than minimum wage will increase wages for entry level employees a similar amount to stay ahead of the minimum wage and existing employees may get an increase to stay ahead of the entry level. It's kind of a trickle up effect. So you may be the beneficiary of this if not find a competitor that is paying more and or offering benefits such as health insurance. Learn a new skill, take some classes or just work hard and ask for a raise or promotion. Good luck.

Raising the minimum wage is ridiculous. Every heard of inflation? This may reduce everyones purchasing power. Why do we reward stupidity, laziness, or bad choices in this country. I started off on minimum wage, flipping burgers, making sandwiches, etc. It is easy in this country to make a decent income. Go to school, apply yourself. Unless you are mentally retarded, missing an arm or leg, or insane you have no excuse. I think there should be no minimum wage....if they pay you a nickel an hour and you are willing to accept it...so be it.

Also, if you cannot afford kids ...don't have them...you haven't earned the right to procreate in this country. Don't make me pay higher taxesfor yor bad decisions.

Well if the economy is stimulated by higher minimum wages, then why not raise them to 200 dollars an hour?

Doesn't seem to make as much sense when you actually test the principle. You are getting paid as much as the service you are available to provide is worth.

Get an education and work harder. Stop waiting on crumbs to fall from the government table. If that is what you are willing to accept then that is what you will get.

Make yourself marketable in the workplace; stop your whining and get to work.

I began my work life as a grocery sacker making $3.45 per hour and I made six figures last year.

if you are not qualified in anything worthwhile than don't expect anything more than minimum wage. It's supply and demand, if there are many people with your qualifications the employer will choose the worker who will work for the least amount of money. so get a better job and so you will be in demand.

I support bringing up the minimum wage to maybe $10 per hour, adjusted perhaps by geography.

However, as other posts attest, it is each individual's responsibility to gain further skills and education in order to pursue better-paying jobs.

Has it occured to you that you might be getting exactly what you (or your skills) as worth?

And, even then, the pay may be unjustifiably inflated by the need to comply with minimum wage laws.

By comparison, hiring a Chinese for $0.50/hr surely seems like a better value.
