Janis Joplin was fantastic, but I second Ann Wilson. Such a rock voice! Even the ballads had the rock tone in her voice. Super solo album as well.

Well how about Janis Martin of Janis and Her Boyfriends? She has been described as Queen of Rockabilly and was nicknamed the "female Elvis" (she was also a contemporary of skinny Elvis.)

aretha was the queen of soul
but for the queen of rock n' roll, that person came 20 some years after elvis. it was the great great Patti Smith. no woman ever rocked harder.
