I was a virgin, and about your age when my mom took me for my first gynecological exam. Even at the age of 30-something, I can remember being very nervous about that appointment. So trust me when I say all of us women have "been there."
Because your still a virgin, the doctor will only use a small nasal (what they use to look inside noses) speculum (the metal thing they stick up there, as you would say). They will not use a larger speculum, like they do with women who have had sex. It will be uncomfortable, but should not be painful.
I think it is recommended that all young women go by the age of 16, or once they have become sexually active... Which ever comes first. Certainly if you are having some kind of problem or concern with you periods, pain, or irregular bleeding, then you will need to go sooner.
Try not to worry too much about it. The pelvic exam only lasts a few minutes, and like I mentioned earlier... It does not hurt.
I hopes this helps. God bless!

I'd say see a gyn when you start having sex or you turn 18, whichever comes first. And yes, they do insert a metal speculum which enables the doctor to see everything. It doesn't hurt though, and they are extra careful to use a small one if you haven't had sex. The exam itself is over very quickly, but it's so important. Ask your mom or a trusted woman friend/family member to suggest a good doctor (probably a female would be better for your first exam) when the time comes. Good luck!

Seeing a GYN should start when you become sexually active, or if you're experiencing gynecologic problems (like infection or abnormal discharges etc..) A probe, usually a speculum, is only used on sexually active females or if needed for thorough visualization, but with your consent of course.. But these procedures are harmless, painless and only a bit uncomfortable. .

You're just 15, wait until you reach atleast 18 before thinking about sex. Though, visit a gynecologist only when you got infected with STD, and merely having sex doesn't require a visit, unless, as i've said, you got STD.

If you aren't sexually active and you aren't having any problems, there really isn't any need to see a gynecologist. If, however, you decide to become active, please, please make sure you make an appointment BEFORE you have sex so you can arrange for birth control and learn all about sexually transmitted diseases.
Other than that, women over the age of 18 should have regular exams.

The steel factor is referred to as a speculum. Take a bath earlier than you pass. They will investigate your vagina, cervix and uterus. Yes your buddy can pass in. Do attempt to use proper phrases in there so you do not sound like a few ghetto baby.

check with your GP. If your "normal doctor" thinks that you should be seeing one, then it's time. If your not sexually active, then unless there are other medical problems that run in the family like early occurring cancers, I don't see any reason why your GP should recommend visits before you hit College age

18 or when you become sexually active. I'm not sure what they do...I've never been to one. I know that's bad since I'm 28 and sexually active.
