there are two engine mounts on that car that isolate the engine vibrations from the inside of the car. on older cars the oils from the road that get on the rubber of the mounts will cause the rubber to weaken and break. When the motor mounts break the result is the vibrations you describe. They are most noticable in reverse because the transaxle moves in the opposite direction from normal and grounds out the mounts and when the air conditioning is on because of the additional engine load that the air conditioning places on the engine.

have your mechanic check the engine mounts. Its a pretty safe bet you'll find that at least the front mount is broken and probably the rear as well.

hope that helps.

i anticipate it has an computerized transmission in view which you point out the idle velocity in opposite. The rear engine mount is hydraulic and controlled via vacuum. seek for the lever on it - that should pass ninety ranges whilst in idle and shifting amongchronic and impartial. If it would not the mount will stay employer and reason severe vibration whilst idling in kit, particularly if the A/C or defogger is on. those mounts get stiff with age and are approximately $a hundred and fifty plus exertions to interchange. The idle is severe, as you say. There ae a number of issues that could reason that, which consists of the thermo raise or the idle air administration putting up or a vacuum leak.

Give that baby a tune up and a new timing belt.
But maybe first you should run a good systems cleaner through it.
