Dude, listen, I have done this poll with many of my associates and they all agree. Name the top three quarterbacks in the league. Every one of them, 100 people to be exact, and they all picked these players ---
1. Peyton Manning
2. Tom Brady
3. Carson Palmer
Now tell me why Carson is number 3, despite the fact that his team has never been to the AFC championship under his watch, and McNabb has been to four NFC championship games and a Super Bowl, yet he doesn't even crack the top three. Carson was injured and he still remains at number 3. Why is that?!!! Where Steve McNair?!! Mike Vick?!! Culpepper?!!! Lechwich?! All of these aforementioned quarterbacks have victories over the top three quarterbacks, yet they aren't even in the conversation of great quarterbacks. Why is that?!! Hell, McNair had the best season ever for a black quarterback and he still had to share it with Manning. What?! When Vick had that great run when he broke the rushing record for a quarterback, he didn't even get mention for MVP. What?! C'mon, the facts clearly show that even if Manning had a great statistically year and they don't make the playoffs, he will still get mentioned for M.V.P. But McNabb could go to the Super Bowl and he will still be considered an average quarterback. Hell, check this out!! I asked as a bonus the next two quarterbacks in the league and they all said ---
4. Ben Roshlesbuger
5. Matt Hassleback
What?!! Neither of these guys is black, right?!! Yet McNabb and McNair are even in the mix. For the record, I'm not saying that race has anything to do with performance, but if you look at it from McNabb's point of view, you see why a black quarterback has to do more than a white quarterback. And don't give me that argument about Rex Grossman getting criticized. If Rex was black, he won't be in the league now. Don't believe me --- ask Aaron Brooks!! This argument certainly has legs. Thanks for the vine. Holla ata playa playa!!! Game!!!

Rex Grossman is scrutinized because he is a horrible quarterback. I think that what Donovan was trying to say is that if a black QB and a white QB had exactly the same skills, the white QB would be praised more. I don't think I agree with this, mostly because its way to broad of a statement and I dont think race is the real divide here. I think its more of a "pocket passer" vs "running QB" issue, and it just so happens that most high profile black QB's or running QB's, for instance McNabb, Vick, and Cunningham.

I'm somewhere near the middle on this issue.
I can't speak for other cities, but Philly can be a brutal town to play in if the fans turn on you. While I am not happy with how the team does business or how D-Mac is playing, I continue to feel that he is the best QB we have had since Norm Van Brocklin.
I won't make excuses for him, but I really think that Andy Reid is handcuffing him with less than stellar players at WR and TE as he overestimates his offensive schemes and the value of the QB position. While I agree that it is the most important position and that a great player doesn't need to be completely surrounded with superstars, some effort must be made to avoid one dimensionality.
But not all Eagles fans see it that way. They see $115 million going to him and no Super Bowl victories, much less only one trip since 1980. They see many good players being cast off like sandbags, they see TO leaving and the teams hopes of another SB try with him. They see Joe Banner capping any hopes of a Lombardi Trophy to death. All the while being treated like dullards everytime Emperor Andy gives a "news" conference.
But what many do is put all the blame, all the frustration on Donovan McNabb, and that is not entirely fair. I can understand why he says so, and it is a valid observation, but I would stop short of blaming him for that reality.
So, Philly being what it is for pro athletes, can give you the impression that we don't like D-Mac or that it is any harder to play here than it was for Cunningham or Jaworski. But to think that as a whole we are discriminating against him because he is black is wrong. We want a winner, not the thousands of promises and disappointments that we have in place of championships.
It isn't like the Eagles have only been around for less that 20 years, have two Super Bowls to their credit, and now play to a mostly empty stadium like the MLB Florida Marlins. We support our football team devoutly - some even insanely. But we aren't stupid enough to make it hard on someone because of his skin color.
Remember Mike Schmidt?

not that I'm tired of reading the same question and answers on Y!A today. But at the risk of injecting a little reality into the situation.......The comments that McNabb made were for the TV program "Real Sports" on HBO. The interview was recorded BEFORE the season started. It was not made after his poor performance Monday night. Secondly, the media (white and black) often refer to a Black QB as having "athletic gifts" and not "a student of the game" as is given to white quarterbacks. Steve Young was athletically gifted, but was always said to be "a smart qb". No so for black quarterbacks. Warren Moon had "little to no athletic" abilities, but was always said to rely on his athletic talents to win games. It's McNabb intelligence that he hates being questioned on a daily basis. And feels that given his resume (4 conf title games, 1 super bowl), that maybe, just maybe he is a smart individual. On the other hand McNabb plays in Philly and Philly has NEVER embraced an athlete for very long. They boo'ed Santa Claus, They cheered Michael Irvin when he laid on field with a career ending injury. They boo'ed Charles Barkley. They are NEVER going to change. If McNabb wants to be loved, he should go somewhere else. That's the bottom line.

McNabb is "grinding the race ax" because idiots out there make him grind it. You think Rush Limbaugh is the only one to mouth off? I bet he's tired of it.
And he gets crap because he hasn't won 75 titles. This is the guy who played a game with a broken ankle. Not sprained. Not cramped. Broken. But that's not good enough. If he was white, he'd be the man even if he NEVER won another game. Yet, he gets criticized because the team isn't winning. Have you seen his receivers lately? Please.
And Rex Grossman faces scrutiny because he sucks. McNabb doesn't suck, but he faces just as much criticism as Grossman. Put McNabb in Chicago with that defense and Chicago goes undefeated.

I'm sorry, at the risk of sounding bad....
Donovan McNabb has been whining about being a black QB since he entered the league.

Ha! Now that is funny. With his pissing and moaning...I am almost (ok not really), starting to sympathize with T.O. Dude needs to get over himself......heck since 2000 or so, seems like every team is trying to find another Mike Vick (minus the dog fighting)....which is odd, since the dude sucked. The league has long respected players like Moon, or McNair....and Vince is just about the face of the NFL it seems these days.....
The truth is, a large portion of Black QBs were drafted for their athleticism....not their passing ability. THat is the unfortunate thing.....but you look at thing like completion percentage.....and they are lower. This has to do with people drafting QBs for the wrong skill set...nothing more. McNabb is feeling the heat.....and trying to pass the buck...without TO, he has to blame someone. (A shame Westbrook is stuck with these hosers.....)
*WestCoastin......you are correct about the Limbaugh thing....but I also remember the Black media torching him at the same time, and one black "community leader" in the Philly area calling him a race traitor over the TO thing......so if there is scrutiny....it comes from all sides. But of course GumBall likes to instigate and cause issues...so I'm not surprised he opened this can of worms......

But i have to ask the question again....Did McNabb say that White people/White media are the ones putting pressure on him? No he didn't. It wasn't even inferred. The Black players in his own locker room turned on him during the T.O. fiasco and the head of the NAACP questioned his "becoming a pocket quarterback". None of these people were white.

Rex Grossman just gets criticized with football issues.
McNabb gets it with other things also, remember Rush Limbaugh?? And he didn't even do anything to deserve that. It's always about race because that's just how society is, black people know this is true, white people have no idea how it is, that's just reality.
