I grew up in Georgia and now live abroad, should I take a class to lose my southern accent, I'm sick of people asking me questions about it?

You should be proud of your accent, it is what makes you .... you! People only ask because they are curious. I say deal and hold your head high :)

I grew up in the North and lived for a good while in a southern state and I see no reason why you should want to lose your southern accent. It's part of who you are. The problem is with stereotypes of Southerners not with accents

As a fellow Southerner I say keep the accent and when asked about it just respond with the old line " I'm American by birth and Southern by the grace of God" and if you were lucky enough to marry a southern girl just listen to her, there's nothing hotter then a woman with a southern accent.

I think there's nothing more sexier than a soft southern accent.
Of course people will ask you questions about it. The same as with an Indian, Russian, African, or Mexican accent.
Be proud of being a Southerner, I know I am!

I'm not a fan of the Southern accent at all, but it's part of your identity. And if you are annoyed by people asking questions, then sure, why not.

i know i shouldnt be talkin bc i have a serious accent myself (im from manhattan and lived here all my whole life so u can probly imagine what i mean) but ive definitely noticed that ppl tend to think that anybody w/a really southern type of accent is a dumb redneck, unless they have the same accent of course. i dunno how u would get rid of it tho. accents give ppl an opinion of u. sometimes its good, like how ppl think english accents make u seem smarter, and sometimes its not so good u know, like they think im a mafioso or they think ur a hick.
