In a few weeks I will be taking a trip to Lake Placid from Tornoto to see the fall leaves. Does anyone have any suggestions on things to see along the way? Also does anyone have any suggestions on a place to stay near Lake Placid? Thanks in advance for any help.

Though it is about an hour's drive SW of Lake Placid (and not really on your way), the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain is a lot of fun and a great place to spend an afternoon. The views along the drive there, past Tupper Lake and Long Lake are spectacular, especially in October. I think it would be worth a side trip if you want to learn some of the interesting history of the Adirondacks. There is an old hotel at Long Lake that is a good place to have dinner and you can take a float plane tour over the mountains right across the street from the hotel. (I would not recommend staying at the hotel, however, unless you have a taste for very quaint and funky places -- the rooms look like something from an old cowboy movie.)

Enjoy your trip -- the Adirondacks are one of my favorite places to travel in Autumn.
