The following link shows that on a Saku Koivu goal, Andrew Archer (who got KO'd by Laraque a night earlier) got both assists

Bob, if you read the penalties list at the bottom, you'll notice what the other poster mentioned about somebody serving the penalties

Mike, I know it's a glitch, just strange to see it is all. Yahoo has a sirect feed from nhl.com so should get it right.

Here's the official sheet

No assists on Saku's goal. Archer goes from 2 to none!

I thought that was just a Yahoo! screw up, the way they list any player that assists a goal and is the ONLY player to assist as getting two assists.

And they say only one guy serves every penalty... But that's not right.

ADD: Direct feed from NHL.com, eh? Why is it that Yahoo! Sports updates the play-by-play before NHL.com then?

Yahoo!'s screwy with the penalties, and sometimes assists... But they let you know when a goal's been scored and how much time's left in a period before NHL.com does.

It seems to me that this is some preseason rule? I'm not sure... i don't think the games r on TV.

But, in all of the games, one guy is always serving the penalty. I have a feeling this is because the preseason games are meant as a coaching tool to see which player to keep on the rosters and which players to send down. If the physical guys kept going to the box, the coaches wouldn't be able to evaluate them. That's y a scratched player is sitting in for the penalties... or so I guess.

All you guys are making a big deal out of nothing. First off, this is Yahoo sports, it's not official NHL boxscores. Second, this is the preseason, these games, and these stats, don't count. Yahoo sports + NHL preseason = screwed up boxscores.

Unless I missed a rule change, that must be a typo or technical glitch in someone's process.

They have made a lot of rule changes over the years that I have disagreed with, but if they actually change the goal and assist rules my head might actually explode. If they start giving two assists to the same player on a single goal, Gretzky's records might actually be in jeopardy.

assist only count when the last two different player touch the puck before one of their teammate hammer it home. A player cant touch the puck 2 twice without passing it to another teammate. I think is a Yahoo glitch.

Could there be a bug in their software? Maybe a disgruntled fan has hacked the NHL systems and dropped a virus in.
