memory foam works great i have a bed i made of memory foam bought from a fabric store but i also have a layer of 4 inch thick medium density foam under that so that i dont sink all they way to the boards underneaith, you will need a padded boxspring or a slab of somesort to lay the foam on otherwise it will feel lumpy because it will conture to whatever surface it layed on. its a great bed and it was not expencive, i made a king sized bed of memory foam and medium density foam withnother 4 inch thick padded "foundation" (plywood with more foam covered with fabric you dont need to go that far it just was overkill ) for a total of 250 dollers, a store bought mem foam bed will run you 2000 easy. you can replace the memory foam every 5 years the underfoam should last 15. sorry bout my spelling.

Mattress. Go to stores that sell mattresses with a measuring tape. Could get two full size mattresses turned side ways onto your homemade bed with a 1 or 2' basic foam top. Go to fabric store and just buy material by the yard for your sheets. By doing your measuring to determine size of beds needed, will determine size to make for your bed.

Old timers made straw beds for firmness.

12" Spa Sensations Theratouch Memory Foam Mattress
$377.98 - $512.98 depending on size.

You can buy the size of mattress you need and make up the difference with a smaller size to ad for length.. and you can find a company to cut the material for you or use an electric turkey slicer.

I think this would be the best quality for the price

I'm tall-ish and slept on a sleeping bag for several years without problems. There's a wide range relative to comfort and expense.

I surf'd a bit more and found a place that ships free. $400 sure beats $800 and up. They do do custom sizes, phone or e-mail them for quotes.

If you can tolerate plain king-size, it'll be simpler to find bedding.
