6 tickets at $12 = $72
$80 + $72 = $152

Lora, if you have problems with word problems, you might want to get your parents to buy my book on it (see my site). Here is how to understand the problem.
Sentence 1: The group was able to buy a maximum of ten tickets in advance at a reduced price of 8$ per ticket.
Translation: they bought 10 tickets at the price of $8. Therefore, they paid 10x$8 =80 for these tickets.
Sentence 2: The rest of the tickets were purchased at the theater at the regular price of 12$ per ticket.
Note: You have to read the next sentence to understand that there were 16 people in the group.
Translation 2: The rest of the tickets = 16 - 10 = 6 [because they already bought 10 tickets]. These 6 tickets were bought at $12 per ticket, for a total of 6x$12 = $72
Now we can find the total they paid for the tickets, which is $80 + $72 = $152. We don't yet know if we need it, but why not do it? [one of the rules is to always do what you can]
Sentence 3: The group decided to divide the total cost evenly among all 16 people.
Translation: divide total cost by 16. $152/16 = $9.5 This is how much each had to pay.
Read it carefully and try to use the same approach with other problems.

Hey Lora, I hope this helps you out :
they bought ten tickets for the reduced price of 8$ per ticket
so, 10 x 8 = 80$
then, they bought six tickets for the door price of 12$ per ticket
so, 6 x 12 = 72$
to get the total amount they spent, you will need to add those two together
so, 80 + 72 = 152$
now, there were sixteen people total that attended the play, and in order for everyone to pay an equal share, you would need to divide the total amount spent by how many people attended the play
so, 152 divided by 16 = 9.50$
I hope I explained that in enough detail that you are able to understand the thought process, and be able to answer these questions on your own in the future. If not, maybe you could ask your teacher for some help. Best wishes.

The first thing you have to do is find out the total cost of all 12 tickets. If 10 tickets are $8 each, then multiply 10 x 8 = 80. So 10 tickets cost $80. The other six tickets are $12 each. So 6 x $12 = $72. Then just add the $80 to the $24 to get the total cost. The total cost is $152. Since they divided the cost evenly between the 16 people, just divide 152 by 16. 152/16 = 9.5. They paid $9.50 each.

Okay, look at it this way.
There are 16 people, so they need 16 tickets.
10 tickets were $8 each... 10 x $8= $80
Now that you have 10 tickets, you need 6 more.
6 tickets are regular price ($12 each). 6 x $12 = $72
Now, you find the total amount spend on tickets.
$80 +$72 = $152
Now divide $152 by 16. =)

I'm guessing it is $9.50 per person. They bought 8 tickets for 10$ each which would be 80$.Then the other 6 had to be bought for 12$ each so 6x12 would be 72$.Then 72$+80$ would be 152$. Divide that by 16(total # of people) and you would get $9.50.

OK so we have 16 tickets total.
10 were $8, so 6 were $12.
So that's $80, & $72, or $152 total.
Divided by 16, that's $9.50 each

since you bought 10 tickets at $8 each, and you bought 6 more tickets at $12 each, you have to compute total cost of the ticket first then total cost divide by 16 ...
(10*8)+(6*12)=80+72
total amount of ticket is 152 divided by 16 and each person needs to pay $9.50

first you do $8 times 10, to find the cost of the first 10 tickets, and you get $80
then, you multiply $12 times 6 and you will get $72
80+72=152 dollars
divide that between 16 ppl
*you get $9.50 per person*

10 tickets @ $8 = $80
6 tickets @ $12 = $72
($80+$72)/16=$152/16
= $9.50 per person
Is this what you want?
