Make sure you use lots of lubricant to make penetration easy and don't tense up. If you are nervous, your muscles will tighten and this will make it very difficult and uncomfortable.
Also, if you are truly in love with the person you are having sex with, that always helps. Good luck.

Finger yourself. Start with one finger and move it from side to side. When you can easily do that with no pain, move to two fingers and so on. That will help stretch your hymen if you still have one. That's really about all you can do. When you ever get to that point and want to have intercourse, relax and use lubricant. It will hurt more if your tense (your body will tighten up more) and if you're dry. Make sure the guy knows that it's your first time and if he cares anything about you, he will go slowly and make sure that you're as comfortable as you can be. My first time wasn't that bad, but it was a little uncomfortable for a few minutes (not unbearable), but he fingered me for a couple months prior to intercourse and I had been fingering myself for a few years. Nothing will completely take the pain away because your vagina is not used to having something that big inside it, but doing these things can really help to reduce the pain. I wouldn't even really describe it as painful actually. It was like a pinch, but again, nothing unbearable. Look at it this way, there are over 6 billion people in this world. If losing ones virginity were THAT bad, there would not be that many people!!

Probably one of the best things for first intercourse is a lot of lubricating jelly. Take your time, go slow, and relax. Breaking the hymen is somewhat painful to most women, but is nothing in comparison to having a baby. Most women do bleed from first intercourse, not all, but most. Do not expect your vagina to be ready for continued intercourse. It takes a while for the hymen to heal, once broken. If you are using a lot of lubricating jelly and after a while it still hurts, the doctor can do a reverse episiotomy to open the area up. Most often having a baby vaginally makes the muscles and tissue more relaxed. There are also graduated dilators availble from ob/gyn to help with vaginal tightness. Women ob/gyns are somewhat more attuned to the problem of vaginal stenosis than men ob/gyns.

Make sure your partner is someone who will take your concerns over his needs. Be sure you are adequately stimulated and use some KY jelly also to make things easier. You can help get yourself ready by fantasies or watching a sexy movie or whatever you like. Communication is the key. Tell him what feels good and what does not. It is best to get an orgasm through manual stimulation by him or yourself. Expecting orgasm through intercourse is not realistic. Once you have an orgasm, you should be good to go for intercourse.
