I have two. One is April Raintree, or In Search of April Raintree, by Beatrice Culleton. It's the story of two Metis sisters, one (the title character) being in search of her identity. April, who can pass off as white, does so, and has a plan to marry a rich, white man. Her plan is opposed by her sister Cheryl, who has much darker Indian skin, and is very proud of her heritage, which she wants to make April aware of. I had to read it in high school, and it is a fabulous read. Highly recommended.

My second book is JD Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye. The narration is hip and vibrant, which makes the book as a whole interesting to read.
