I'm learning about independant and dependant variables in Science. I don't remember when to use a bar graph and when to use a line graph. Does anyone know?

Can you give me an example of when to use a bar graph and when to use a line graph?

A line graph is better for showing trends and patterns.
A bar graph is better for comparing periods - say February with September, because on a line graph a point can be missed in traversing the graph.
