I have no real data but I'll put my money on more women and here is why. I think the prime directive of all living things is to survive. Part of survival is reproduction. If you look at the reproduction mechanism it is easier to have one guy for many woman than one woman for many guys. We are not discussing rights or wrongs here just simple reproduction. So, if the goal is to have as many humans as possible then we can see that we, as survivors don't need that many m,en around.

Argument number two deals with the male mentality and status. Most men are the ones that get into trouble. By trouble I mean the kind that get you killed like wars, altercations and risky behaviours. So, if you have equal number of males and females borned but some of the males get killed for what ever reason then more females are left.

argument #3 is that females tend to outlive males. So, even if equal number of males to females are borned each year over the long haul female tip the balance. There is probably more grannies than grandpas around.

Now a question for you. If there are more females than males then how come we still haven't had a female president yet. Think about it, females by having more numbers should be able to get an easier win by having extra votes. So what does that tells you.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XY_sex-determination_system
Women have 2 X Chromosomes and men have an XY chromosome. The X Chromosome is larger than they Y chromosome so women have a better chance of not having deficiencies at birth.
So women's population is around 51% and mens are 49%.

There are more women.

There are more women than there are men; yet there are more males than there are females.

Sounds impossible; but its because there are fewer girl children born; yet women live longer than men, (4 years on average and yes, worldwide).

So if you count total population aged 0-114, there are more boys and men than girls and women. But if you count ONLY the adult population, there are more women than there are men.

Good day

Women.

Like the previous poster said, due to chromosomes. More sperm carrying the X chromosome are likely to reach an egg, and also women are less likely to miscarry a female than a male embryo.
