My almost 6 month old (in 2 days) is now having rice cereal, formula, as well as breastfeeds at night and a few times during the day - she sort of "snacks" at the breast.
Even though she is getting some solids and formula now I am glad she is still interested in nursing. Am I still considered a nursing mom even if she only nurses once or twice a day? When people ask me if I'm still breastfeeding I say yes, but sometimes feel like a cheat because I don't mention the formula/solids. Can I still say "yes" or should I explain myself?
(Hope that made sense)

Just want to say thank you very much to all who've answered so far. You really have put my mind at ease. I feel glad that I can still say I'm a nursing mom with confidence. I feel really proud of myself to have made it this far and really hope I can keep it up for as long as she wants.

You should say "yes". You still are breastfeeding plain and simple. You need not tell everyone all your business. You do not have to explain anything unless you wish to.

No need to explain to anyone. If she is still nursing at all, you are still a nursing mom.
I nursed my son for almost two years. My son didn't like rice cereal or formula so he nursed exclusively until the doctor told me to start him on solids...by then he was mature enough for oatmeal cereal and jarred fruits/veggies. Once he started eating that, he nursed less but still two to three times a day...by about 18 months he was only nursing at night before bedtime and that continued for a few months until he said he didn't want to nurse any more and stopped shortly before his second birthday. I considered myself a "nursing mom" the entire time!

Whether you breast feed once a day or 10 times a day you are still a nursing mother. And you don't need to explain anything to anyone. you are you and your life is you life. no need to feel guilty about anything. You have picked the best thing for your baby. breast milk give her all the nutrients for the baby that nothing out on the market can replace, and it is the best bonding experience for you and her. Congratulations! Be Proud to say that you are a nursing mother!

Answer how you feel you comfortable to answer. It's ok to say you're still breastfeeding because you are, you can add "along w/formula and solids" if you wish. They don't need to know the details unless they specifically ask, and don't feel like a cheat if you don't add that... after all you are still breastfeeding. Good for you !

Mom if she is using breast milk for ANYTHING, you are still breast feeding. I got so "sick" of the Le Leche Nazi's judging some of the mothers in the group. We are all different and are the needs of OUR child.
Mine never learned to "latch on" and for 5 months I pumped to feed him and then slowed down to suppliment and mix with cereals, until he was weined off of the breast milk at 6 months.
I very much breast fed my child, while some will disagree that fact, since he never "latched on". If you pump for 30-45 minutes at a time 5-8 times a day in the beginning.....get real your breast feeding your child. Don't you worry...take care of your child the best way YOU see fit. Bravo Mommy!

Breastfeeding is breastfeeding whether it is alittle or alot. When you feed or bottle feed as well as breast feed during the day, it's considered supplemental feedings.
One hint - you might want to consider weening your child before she starts to use your nipple as a teething ring during breastfeeding. Very painfull.
