Actually strangely yes there is a correlation between having an avatar and the number of answers

Yes! That helps a lot! More people will add you as a contact too, if you have an avatar! That's what happened to me! With an avatar, you'll be more recognizable to the fellow answerer's, including myself! Good luck with that!

probably...i answer questions based on the question itself..and having an avatar helps..some people like to relate the avatar with the question...like how could a person whom looks like this ask a question like that..its all part of the big game on y/a..i myself hate those stupid shadow avatars...they remind me of some one with no imagination...dont be shy...

It may help, but I answer the questions, I think are interesting. So, whether you have an avatar or not, it matters to me, if your questions have merit. Peace!

it doesn't make much differance to me, but from experience I have noticed that an avatar can draw attention to your question, so I would say probably yes

its possible. many faceless users are infrequent to yahoo! answers and dont understand it.
but i do think they stand out more that the build-a-face ones do. i look like everyone else.
