Can a niece or nephew be responsible for their Uncle's medical bills? I have an uncle that I do not have a relationship with, but I know he has parkinson's and is spending a lot of money. At present he has many assets, but this may go a long time. Could some state agency ever come to me and claim that I owe them? I have a fear of such a thing, even though I have never seen that happen. Anyone know??

No. After he liquidates his assets to pay medical bills, he will go on medical assistance (Medicaid).

You would not even be liable for a parents medical bills. However, in order to qualify for Medicaid, an individual may not give away financial assets to family members. Most states have a three to five year look back period.

For additional information, consult an elder law attorney in your jurisdiction.

In the case you describe, you should not be liable. If you signed any forms accepting liability, you would be liable. If he gave you anything within 5 years of the bills, they MAY be able to 'recapture' the value of the gift. Aside form that, you have no legal responsibility to care for your uncle.

What unusual regulations you have there. customarily coverage firms gets out of paying in the event that they are in a position to and in case you're breaking the regulation...your coverage won't conceal. besides the undeniable fact that what exceeded off to your passanger replaced into neither their fault or yours so your coverage organization would perhaps be greater prepared to help them get a settlement from the different drivers coverage. What a large number.

I don't believe this is the case. Unless you are his caregiver or have legal responsibility for your uncle's care, I can't see that happening.
