Your best source of help is The Stuttering Foundation of America. That is where several uncles and cousins of mine who stuttered found the book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer," "Advice to those who Stutter," referrals to speech therapists who specialize in treating stuttering (one uncle went to a therapist and found that she used the Self Therapy in her sessions). There are online videos that show therapists working with stutterers, too. Check out their web site and/or call them.

Sometimes a language patholigist or speech therapist can help the person recognize the triggers of the stuttering. Other times once the person realizes or hears themself stutter they can figure out themselves what will help.
Of course the cruelest thing is the mimicing people do of stutterers. Even "adults" make cutting remarks or humiliate the stutterer. I know more than one stutterer who has low self-esteem after being prey to jokes. What a shame it's the jerks who have free flowing words and use them so cruely.

I heard they have some new devices out now, but don't know much about how they work.
I always heard that if they "sing" the words, they don't studder.
