My daughter is 13 months old and over the past couple days she has developed a severe diaper rash (is is around the actual butt area not the vaginal area)(Also she is teething) It is bright red and blistery and bleeding. I have taken her to the doctor for it before (3 times) and they don't seem to give me any help what so ever. So I decided to ask moms(or dads) what I can/should do to help her. All help will be greatly appreciated(my daughter is in terrible pain and crying almost non stop and she is normally a happy content baby. Thank you.

As a former nanny the best advice I can give you is this. Do not use baby wipes, even the sensitive unperfumed ones until the rash has cleared up as it causes pain. Use a soft face cloth ( wash cloth) with warm water and no soap to clean her. Allow her to spend time with no diaper on. I would recommend 30 mins at a time, then place a new diaper on her.

For severe cases I recommend you look up a product called Drapolene, it's an English product but I have seen it on places such as Amazon and keep that on hand for next time.

The Diaper rash should clear up in about 3 days, make sure you increase her water intake to dilute the urine so it is less acidic and change very reguarly.

Best of luck to you both

I've found what works best is some stuff called "Beaudroux's Butt Paste". Strange name, I know. But it worked wonderfully with my son. He went through a period of bad diarrhea (thanks to my mom for feeding him tons of junk food) and ended up with a bad diaper rash as well. I put neosporin on the parts that were bleeding, then smeared the whole area with the butt paste. Make sure you change her diaper AS SOON as you notice she's wet or dirty - you've probably heard that before, but it never hurts to get a reminder. In fact, if you're willing to possibly clean up a mess, it may help to give her a little bit of diaper-less time to "air out" a bit. Lastly, give her some baby tylenol. It will help with the teething AND the diaper rash pain.
Good luck!

I can't believe the doctors weren't more help! Well if it were my daughter, I would: Give her some infant tylenol to make her more comfortable, wash the area with a wash cloth & water when you change her (instead of diaper wipes) and let air dry or gently pat dry with a soft cloth, apply a diaper cream with each diaper change and make sure that you check her diaper often. Has she had diaherra? If so, that could be the cause. Many children get diaherra when they are teething. If that's not it, have you changed the soap you bathe her in? Maybe she is sensitive to that, or the detergent you wash your washcloths in, or are you using a different brand of diapers or diaper wipes?
Hope she feels better soon!

My daughter had the same thing before and I was told if the rash does not go away it is probably due to a yeast infection.I ended up having to get some medicated cream prescribed from the doctor. It has Nystatin which is also used to treat thrush as well which is the same type of bacteria and you will notice an improvement the same day when you start using it.If you can't get to the doctor as wierd as this may sound you can also use the natural way of using plain yoghurt that has the active bacteria in it which will help get rid of the bad bacteria.

I have heard a lot of good things about Triple Paste, but haven't actually tried it yet. IMO, if you have taken your child to the doctor 3 times for diaper rash, and they give you no suggestions, creams/ointments to try, etc...then I would consider switching doctors. Try to give her some Tylenol, and then give her a bath. Mix a few scoops of baking soda into the bathwater, and no bubbles. Let her play and splash for a little while, then when you get her out...pat her bottom dry(don't rub), then apply an ointment on her bottom's worst spots like Polysporin, and then cover the rest of the rash in a layer of A&D ointment. If possible, skip any ointment and let her run around in a cloth diaper for a while.

Both of my children kept a diaper rash and my daughter (the oldest) just had to suffer through it, until she was potty trained! But with my son I found 1 thing that worked! I mixed DESITIN original with cornstarch in a bowl it will be thick and pasty but when I put it on his butt it was dry enough to fight the moisture to keep from causing a yeast infection but...it was also medicated with the DESITIN so...try that.

Also if she has been on an antibiotic you may get some medicine for a yeast infection (the same cream you would use) and put it on her! Now it WILL burn like fire but....if it's a yeast infection it will also heal it up in less than 24 hours if you keep it on her! GOOD LUCK

It could be a food allergy. I know a little boy who had that kind of reaction when he ate a lot of citrus. It might help to change diapers. My daughter used to get a rash all the time until I switched to Fuzzi Bunz cloth diapers. Check them out at www.babiesinchico.com. Before we discovered the Fuzzi Bunz we used a lot of A&D on her rashes. Boudreaux's Butt Paste also works really well. It can also help to give her airing out time. Let her go diaper free for fifteen minutes a day. Good luck

My son had really bad diaper rash last year and his pediatrician told me to mix balmex, Vaseline, lotrimin (yes the foot cream) and neosporne together until it becomes creamy or pasty and apply during every diaper change until the rash was cleared. It took only a day for it to b completely gone. Try to let her "air out". Wearing diapers for long periods of time makes diaper rash worse. Also use fragrance free and alcohol free wipes. Maybe a gentle bath would help sooth here just don't douse her bottom in soapy water though. Good luck!!!

Triple Paste. It is the most expensive diaper rash cream but it works wonders. I worked in day care for four years and was a nanny for two years, and that stuff is amazing. It is better than butt paste ( that is why it is more expensive ) GET IT !! Also I would try hear and there just letting her air dry after diaper changes , they say that air drying is the best thing you can do for them ,

my daughter had the same thing. Her rash was soo bad that it was starting to bleed. We tried all the ointments (except butt paste)and nothing would work. (Kinda made it worse.) So we had to take her to the doctor. She(the doc) gave us an antibacterial ointments and zinc oxide. We just had to give our daughter a bath everytime she had a bowel movement. Not necessarily wiping her sore spot but at least sitting her in the tub. We also used an anitbacterial soap. Again we didnt wipe her sore spot..!!!! (she would scream) The soap was mixed with the water and we just let her sit in it for a bit. Then we would pat dry her and put the anitbacterial ointment on plus the zinc oxide. I think you need to take your baby to another doctor. If that doc isnt giving you anything for it, you need to find someone that will. Its too far along not to get anything for it. With that medication, It was gone in a week. My son has a rash now. Im trying that butt paste. it seems pretty good soo far. Good luck with your lil sweet one. Poor baby is probably crying with all that pain. I feel for her and you cause you got to hear it. Dont worry it will get better. Good luck..
