Remember this about Ebay......

1) You get what you pay for
and
2) If it sound too good to be true, it probably is.

Depending on the specs of the laptop, 50.00 is dirt cheap. If you get it for that, prepare to invest some money in it for whatever software adn repairs it needs. Watch the seller, and check their feedback.

Look at the rating, customer reviews, and other products (if applicable) of the seller. Generally, the probability of a scam on ebay is very low, since ebay is regulated by countless malware, spyware, transaction scam, etc detection programs and if such is found, they are usually eliminated and the proper authorities notified.

In short, you're probably safe.

John,

ebay is a very dangerous place to buy a laptop. they are a scammers dream item to sell.

but you can buy one safely if you remember this:

if you are buying on ebay, ALWAYS
pay through PAYPAL and fund it with a CREDIT CARD.

then if anything goes wrong and PAYPAL can't get you a refund, you then have the option of filing for a CHARGEBACK through your CC provider.

PAY SAFE, STAY SAFE!
