i have a 1971 dodge demon and it will be needing new glass soon. i was wondering if like (this might sound crazy) you can put bulletproof glass on the windshield and windows. like it doesnt have to be bulletproof but maybe some type of clear plastic or somethin, for instance the stuff in back of a cop car seperating the front and back seats. is there anythin that is strong that is clear like glass and that you can customize to fit on your car?

Auto glass is a safety feature for all automobile. Let's say (God forbid) you when off a hill and into a deep lake or river, and you sunk and the doors wont open, the only way out is from the window. Every emergency vech have a device to smash the window under water, (while at least in Canada they do) it's called a Pounce. This device is capable of shattering a glass window under water with a force of 400lbs. Bullet proof glass is made up of multiple layer of a strong vinyl called PVB (poly vinyl butrul), this is a real strong lamination. If you had this install in your window, then emergency services will have problem saving you under water, or even on land when your car door won't open, and the only way out to save you life is thu the glass. Plus on top of that just like every said here it will not fit the curve of your door, due to thickness. You will have re-customize your whole car for that.

P.S Is your life in danger?

Not only is bulletproof glass hard to work with--it is too thick for the doors as you have them. the tracks will not take the edges. There is no way you can do what you describe. Plastic is easy to scratch and one mistake with glass cleaner and you have foggy plastic forever. Glass cleaner is NOT to be used on plastic....ever. Cop dividers are not a good gauge for window glass---they just keep snot and spit from getting on the cop.

Lexan is a strong clear polycarbonate and comes in sheets, like plywood...usually 4 ft. by 8 ft. You can get it one eighth inch thick, one quarter inch, or even thicker. up to 1 and 1 half inches thick. It is tougher than plexiglass and will not crack. Anything over a quarter inch thick is going to be hard to match the curve of your glass unless you just need it to be up against the inside of the glass. Banks use the thick stuff in many lobbies. . 1/4" thick is what I would try
It wont be easy

First off, anything other than certified auto glass is illegal if you're going to drive it on city streets. Second, plexiglass can be but and shaped to make a windshield, but it scratches very easily. Anything plastic will have scratches in it after 1 month of driving. Stick with safety glass.
