Of course not. We have laws against that sort of thing. Twelve year olds are only allowed to like Avril, MCR and FOB.

For sure they are, and I wish more 12 year olds would take to exploring the music universe a bit more, rather than allowing themselves to be spoonfed the craptastic stuff on MTV and 98% of the radio stations.

To prove its possible, my 8 year old niece knows songs by Radiohead and Bob Dylan. She also knows her way around Brit-rock bands more than most adults do. She may not understand the full impact of great music, but she does understand its better, as she'll choose Mando Diao over Hannah Montana any day (unless its on tv... then we're stuck with it!)

Oh yeah, by the way, I was listening to The Huggabunch record at 8 years old... and at 12 - Ace of Base. And he, at the time, it was the best ever! So whos to judge musical taste, but it should be encouraged to broaden horizons by this age.

Everyone should be "allowed" to like the music which they think is good, regardless of what people tell them they should or shouldn't listen to.

I started to get into a lot of music at around age 12, maybe a little before that, and it helped me a lot growing up, because it helps you discover a lot about yourself and it helps you cope with the world around you.

When i was twelve i loved rock music and hip hop...and a lot of other stuff so i don't see why other twelve year old s can't either. I still love rock music and i think that no matter what age you are you can listen to whatever music you like and like whatever band or person you want to like. Follow you're heart and don't always listen to what people say. Personally however i find that age isnt all that imortant for things like,, love,,or music ,,,or friends,,but thats just me.

ya, they should be. I was 8 and going to blink-182 concerts. And I liked rage against the machine when I was 6 and stuff. But most 12 year olds DONT listen to good music.

yes, yes, yes!

I liked a bunch of great music when I was 12. My 4 year old twin girls like good music (white stripes, radiohead, system of a down, muse- not just the old mcdonnald stuff!). taste has no age limit when it comes to this. After managing in music stores and being a radio station brat (Dad was a DJ) I have seen grown adults with the crappiest taste in music you could imagine. I had a lady with her 4 kids in tow ask me once if every cd she picked up was "dirty", not meaning unedited, and if I said no she lost intrest.

I love this question!!!!!

I think there is a law requiring you must be 13 to like good music. Also not really understanding your question I'll just say most adults would not agree with what what a 12 yr. old considers good music.

Your age group is what most AM stations aim their marketing towards.
Go into any household with a 12-year old, and you will hear the radio blasting all afternoon, I can assure you.
I take it you are not listening just to the news.

If someone who is 12 or 13 and he or she wants to like The Beatles or Johnny Cash or The Supremes there is nothing wrong with that music is good for everbody and it is good to broaden our horizons and try new things!

define "good music" first. different people have a different idea on what "good music" is. like for example is it rock, pop, punk, hiphop, rap, like disney stuff or what. but yeah of course 12 year olds are allowed to listen to good music. they can listen to whatever music they want and like, well as long as it is approprient.

well it depends on your idea of good music. i don't see why not though. most 12 year olds i know (my nephews) like what i would consider to me horrible music, but to them it's good. when i was 12, which was 14 years ago, i listened to smashing pumpkins, tori amos, bush, mazzy star, blind melon, dinosaur jr. and at the time, it thought it was great, and i still think some of it is. now i listen to totally different stuff. it just depends on your preference. what kind of music do you listen to now? if you want any good music suggestions let me know.
