Download and burn the ntpasswd from the following address. It's a bootable CD that will walk you through resetting your password. It'll also tell you the name on the account.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The only way to reset your windows password 100% safe is to use a software called Reset Password Pro.

The software allows you to create a boot-disk, that can be made on a CD/DVD or USB stick. The boot-disk can then be inserted into any locked machine, and it's a simple case of pressing reset. Here is their official site: http://www.resetwindowspass.com

Reboot your computer. Before the windows logo appears, press f8 until a service menu pops up. One of the options should be "safe mode". Enter it. Log in as "Administrator". Hopefully there will be no password, or you at least remember the password from there. Go into Control Panel, access User Accounts, and change the password of the account you forgot to something you'll remember. And make sure you don't forget your "Administrator" password, if you set one. The only way to fix this is to reinstall windows. This is just tedious, but there's a way to do it without formatting your harddrive, so don't worry too much.

This is easy to do.

- First restart your computer
- Then before the windows logo appears, keep on pressing F5 alot of times until the safe mode and else screen shows up...
- Then select safe mode (with your keyboard, arrows down and up), press enter, and it will ask you to start windows normaly or something like that, and then you press enter.
- Select the account named "Administrator" and click it
-Then click yes on the box that may appear.
- Go to start, then go to control panel, and select user accounts, then select your account and then on the left side of your screen click remove password, that may not work, if it doesnt click where it says "make a new account", to make a new one...

If you are using XP, boot into safe mode, and assuming you haven't changed it, the administrator account by default has no password. Log in and make the changes.

That happened to me once - my password had expired, and I failed to notice that it was going to go bad. I got in by using "administrator" as a password. You also might try "admin". Good luck.
