I know that there is evidence showing the universe is expanding. But is there any possibility that gravity could pull all the matter back to the center causing so much heat and energy that it could create another "big bang" and this is how the universe continues to live. Never dying, ever changing to stay alive?

That theory is called "The Big Crunch" but lately they are debunking it since new research shows that the universe is speeding up instead of slowing down.

The latest evidence is that the expansion is speeding up, not slowing down. So it will never fall back. How can it be speeding up? They don't know. They are postulating some unknown thing making it speed up and they call that thing "dark energy". Nobody knows what the dark energy is. It might be anti-gravity. That may or may not be correct, but at least that is not any crazier than any other ideas I have heard.

All current evidence indicates that the expansion of the universe is continuing at an accelerated rate. Dark matter which is supposed to exist can't be found. I think it will expand itself out of existence.

That was the theory that was kicking around but now they say that the expansion of the universe is accelerating and that would tend to put a monkey wrench into the idea. At face value you'd think the opposite would be true. The study of the universe is in it's infancy and any way you look at it we're talking eons and eons.

most theories would end like that. obviously the big crunch/oscillation theory would. also the big rip theory i think would, because your left with a particle haze that should eventually collapse back into a single point.

most of these theories depend on the amount of matter in the universe. lots of matter and the big crunch will most likely happen because the gravity will overpower dark energy. is theres less matter the big rip should happen because dark energy would overpower gravity.

That prospect seems to be getting dimmer. Recent observations that the expansion of the universe is accelerating and the speculation of dark energy seem to imply that the universe will expand forever and just fade away.
