my mom works at a pet shop and one of there female cameleons are looking a little wider then usual and we were wondering can she get pregnant in captavity?

Of course they can. That's how people like myself have bred them, in captivity. If she is not given a place to lay, then she will just drop them and they will go bad quickly. Most chameleons need about a foot of dirt in the bottom of the enclosure. They dig a very deep nest, lay the eggs, and then cover the nest up. I've bred veiled chameleons. When the female starts going down to the bottom of the enclosure, I know she's ready. I place her in a trash can with about a foot of dirt packed down so she can dig down without the dirt collapsing. My females usually started digging as soon as I put them in the trash can. Depending on species, some chameleon eggs can take up to a year to hatch.

Female chameleons can develop eggs even if they have not been mated with a male. If it is one of the species that lays eggs like a veiled chameleon then tell your mom that she should provide it with a container of damp sand to bury the eggs in. If they don't have a place to lay then they can become egg-bound which is often fatal.

they can get pregnant if they watch other animals get pregnant, though any eggs will be empty.
