The only difference between European and US computers is the power supply. There's actually a jumper on all power supplies that switches between 110 and 240 volts. All other components inside the PC work at the same power ratings. CPU, motherboard, memory, everything.
If you take your hard drive with you it will work just fine in a PC overseas

Here are 2 links that may help you get your computer working with 220 volts AC, in a foreign country. This should answer your question completely. It used to be, that the power supply for the computer had a slide switch on the back that would allow 110 or 220 volt AC current. Check the back of your computers power supply to make sure. I hope this helps.

If you will just install it as a slave drive on a desktop overseas, take note that ALL internal PC power are 12V, 5V and 3.3V DC. All hard drives are supplied from the 12V and 5VDC rails. There are NO voltage jumpers.

NOW, if that is an external hard drive that has its own power source, you would need a stepdown transformer or you could look for AVRs with dual voltage outputs (220 and 110VAC).

it doesn't matter (for the hard drive). hard disks power sources are +12 and +5 volts DC supplied by the power supply. what you should consider is the voltage input of your power supply. if it only supports 110v then you have to buy a step-down transformer that converts 220v to 110v.

hope that helps...
