I just nursed back a balloon molly which had dropsy, and it's still alive and active ;)

Get maracyn TC and treat for 10 days, instead of 5
it gets worse before it gets better, but it should help if you cought it early enough
Just before you start the treatment, do a 50% waterchange and don't forget to take out the carbon cartridge

Hope that helps
Good luck

dropsy is 98% fatal as it isnt a disease, it is a syptom, which is caused by organs that failed causing fuild buildup.

It really cant be treated affectively as you have to find away to restart the organs.

There are a few things that work that people have tried, but it is VERY varied and inconstant as again it is not a disease. Which also means that it cant be transferred from fish to fish.

BUT IT is a sign of POOR WATER QUALITY.

Your fish swelling up to the point they look like they have feathers and are going to pop ? Your tank is not balanced , did you ever put any aquarium salt in it ? Dropsy is the fish unable to keep a internal fluid balance , salt will help any future fish , sadly the fish you have now probably have permanant internal damage.don't waste your money trying to save them . Balance the tank, then get new fish.

try using maracyn and maracyn2 combined -- you want a gram positive and gram negative antibiotic -- cover all bases. if you can find maracyn plus that should work on its own.
