You really don't want an unusual name for your child. He or she must go thru life being tease, humiliated, discriminated against because you thought it would be cute and different. Give your child every bit of an equal chance in life as others. Haven't you seen the surveys on how colleges & employers will pass over an ethnic sounding name. Honestly, do you think a owner of a company or human resources would hire a "Ja'quan" over a "Bradley" or La'heaven vs Emily? If you want an unusual name then change yours. My father told me 29 years ago not to name my child a name that would proceed them & nor that they couldn't spell by the age of 2 or 3- . I didn't & both of my young men are very well off & accepted. To be unusual and different right now would be to name your child an old fashion proper name.

I have always liked the name Coral. I have never met a girl named Coral, but I just feel like its a refreshing name...if you understand what I mean (if not it's fine haha). But yeah, Coral is unsual. Or maybe look up some african names or african words. Ex: Ina, means "life".

Or maybe make up a name or change the spelling of a name. ex: Airika

Like you, I wanted an uncommon name for our daughter. I also wanted her to be "named after" my husband...after some thinking, I finally combined part of my name (Karen) and her daddy's name (Donny) and came up with Karadon (pronouned Kare-uh-dun). I have gotten numerous compliments on how different and beautiful her name is. Maybe you can combine your name with your child's father's name and get some unique! It worked for us.

Check the US Census data for a long list of girl names to choose from!

http://www.census.gov/genealogy/names/dist.female.first

The ones at the top of the list are common, so I guess pick ones that are further down the list!

Also, you could try to make up your own. Like, combine letters from different family members or something.

Good luck!
