i heard a radio show today that chronologically listed bush's definition of our mission in iraq from before our invasion to the present time. it changed to suit his needs or agenda.
now that we are there, there is no way that our leaving will not destroy the fragile or nonexistent infrastructure in iraq. that is the criteria that the republicans are using to remain. we destroyed the country and now are trying to pretend that they might be able to run their own gov't in a couple of months.
iraq will be a battleground forever and ever(as you say). whether we are there or not, is a good question. that is bush's legacy to our country. a poorly planned war with no plan for a victory.

The goal is to create a forever war that lets Bush admin friends and insiders loot the treasurey, justify a police state at home, and make certain that authoritarian GOP Neocons have a sandbox to play in for the next 2 decades. We had no legitimate reason for invading. Notice how many Bush insiders come from the oil industry ?
Is that a coincidence. The spice must flow ! But some believe its to impose democracy on this part of the world from the outside, at the muzzle of a gun.
How do you, as an out side force, create a democracy in a foreign sovereign state, staff it with puppet governors and expect it to flourish?

the original goal was twofold
1)secure oil interests in and around the region
2)build up a military presence in and around the region to secure oil interests
most all other reasons are BS. The talk about us going there for WMD's was proven BS. The talk that we went there to stop terrorism was BS because all but two of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudi's and Saddam didn't support Alkeida. We've actually kind of made it succeptable for terrorism to grow there currently but before our presence it wasn't a terrorist breeding ground.
I want you to do this for me... look at a map. Look at where Iraq and Afghanistan are located then look and oil pipelines in the region. It was cheaper at the time to go after Iraq and Afghanistan to surround Iran so we could have influence over them without having to fight a war with them.
Currently our goal in Iraq is to stop the sectarian violence across the country and maintain the oil routes we've secured. Iraq is a religiously divided nation that was held in check by Saddams regime. Now that that's gone these people are attempting to kill each other. Most of the bombings and murders you here of over there aren't terrorists per se it's sectarian violence usually over some religious grounds amoungst Iraqis. Iraq's government infrastructure is currently too weak to be able to police its nation from this mass violence, actually Iraqs government (that we put in place) also has a lot of issues with mixed religion and the leaders not caring for members of the other religion.
It'll take decades maybe centuries to change there harts and minds these religions have fought for centuries it's just gotten crazy recently because the balance of power is no longer in place. Really even though I want the troops home more than anybody and think this war was retarded, we're really kind of stuck at this point. If you think the violence is crazy there now if we were to pull out tomorrow you'd see killings that your grandchildren will compare to the haulocost on Iraqi civillians (almost a million Iraqi's have died with us securing the country already). Not to mention we'll have lost what we had hoped to gain from the oil routes. Before the war we didn't need them so much but with the debt we've built up as a nation securing them if we can't maintain them it's going to hurt the US pocketbook more than it's already hurt.
Yes we will be there in some way forever (or till they're out of oil). The troop levels will greatly decrease but you'll probably never see a day where we have no troops stationed at a military base in Iraq.
one4god.... did you ever ponder why Iraq wouldn't comply with weapon inspectors? If Iran knew for sure that Iraq had no WMD's they'd have invaded before we could have. Saddam was trapped between a rock and a hard place... he could a) not let weapon inspectors in and stay safe from Iran but get pounded by the UN or b) let them in and get beat down by Iran. He chose the former and now he's dead. Also the former head of the CIA wrote a book about basically what he told president bush before the attack I suggest you read it. Also we knew even if he did have "WMD's" they were only capable of being deployed locally and could never make it to US soil... Also I said in my response 9/11 wasn't the reason for the war it just helped to rally support... We were going to find a reason to go to war with Iraq the second Bush was elected.
Your rant about Russia is preposterous in this day and age... I don't know where you were but the cold war ended nearly 20 years ago because the soviet union was broke. They had economic troubles then and they still do. But only now they've stopped investing so much in their military whereas the US has continued to fund its military at an increasing rate. We spend more money a year on military spending than something like the next 10-20 nations combined. There is no other military/economic superpower and a war with Iran though wouldn't be helpful would do nothing to remove our superpower status.

We (this means that NATO) went into Afghanistan as a suitable away end effect of the Sept. 11 assaults. The objective was that we wreck the al Quaeda operations there, do away with the Taliban government and commerce it with a democratically elected government. Then pass away. notwithstanding, we on the 2d are caught between a rock and a complicated place considering the shown fact that the federal government we connected has unavoidably verified to be corrupt, the police and army we are searching for to instruct are ineffective, brutal and ineffective, and our troops are further and extra substantive as an occupying tension. in actual fact we are staring at to impose a civilised attitude of government on an uncivilised united states of america. notwithstanding, if we pass away, the Taliban come back, take over Afghanistan as quickly as greater, then turn their interest to taking on Pakistan. Pakistan has a cache of nuclear weapons. Now now no longer a comforting advice. may be it particularly is why Obama is suggesting entire nuclear disarmament? Iraq was as quickly as a tidying-up sport that went unsuitable. My looking out of it particularly is that the U. S. wanted to get its troops out of Saudi Arabia. They have been there to look after the oilfields, notwithstanding their presence on the "holy floor" was as quickly as inflicting unrest. 9-11 gave the Bush administration the excuse they had to invade. Iraq of direction had no longer something to do with Sept. 11 notwithstanding the federal government made up a narrative that Iraq had hyperlinks to terrorism, or ought to do at some element, and the demanding American public fell for it. interior the united kingdom Tony Blair, the self-appointed saviour of the Iraqi persons, knew the British ought to under no circumstances think that tale, so instead he pushed the claims made by utilising way of Iraqi dissidents (adult men and ladies who must be attentive to-how on the instant from the overthrow of Saddam Hussein) that Iraq had an lively WMD programme, and suppressed or exceeded over all information to the different (the David Kelly affair). As a minimum subjects seem to be settling down slightly bit in Iraq, ultimately.

The goal is simple: to make a handful of wealthy elitists, industrialists and power brokers wealthier and more powerful. We are 'in' this immoral 'war' because the Bush family had a personal vendetta against Saddam Hussein; Cheney wanted all the OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands; and the giant U.S. military-industrial complex needed to boost its sagging profits from too many years of 'peace'.
From Day One, this 'war' has been all about OIL and WAR PROFITEERING. Nothing else.

Every report regarding the outcome of an Iraqi invasion stated that we could never get out. The Oil companies are angry because we have upset the oil markets by our presence there. The main reason gas prices are rising is because the world markets are importing more, not because the oil companies are cooking the books.
The ONLY REASON we are in IRAQ is to set up a permanent protection station for ISRAEL. Calling it blood for oil is a diversion. The ISRAELI government controls the congress and both dems and reps will remain in Iraq...mark my words...~~~~W

The Fuhrer Herr Bush wants his oil kingdom and he's willing to pay for it with the blood of Iraqi citizens, children as well as young American men and women dressed up as soldiers.
You guys will be paying the cost of this stupid wasteful war until your grandchildren are old and in wheelchairs - by which time America will have bankrupted their country several times over and the US flag will be changed to a Chinese version of Walmart flag!

The goal is to create diversion from pursuing osama and hang sadam. Establishing an al-queida presence in iraq. We are not surrendering we are pulling our troops out and letting them take control for better or worse. As bush said mission acomplished.

The goal of US allied troops being in Iraq is to teach the Iraqi people how to govern their own country on their own without foreign assistance or interference. Their have always been under the dictatorship of the tyrannical Saddam Hussein, and since the allied overthrow and occupation, the Iraqi people have been learning to establish and govern themselves. It's going slow because this is a whole new process for them, something the war protesters don't seem to fathom.
There is no telling how long it will take them to be self-governing. Their enemies (and ours), the Muslim terrorists, are waiting like vultures for the troops to pull out so they will have a chance to invade Iraq and regain control. This is like taking a group of pre-school children and teaching them to be adults so the already adults won't take advantage of them. Well, the pre-schoolers won't be adults until they reach adulthood, now will they. This is why it will take an unknown amount of time until we can pull out of Iraq.
It is not a matter of surrender. That is not a win, it is a defeat. The fighting may never stop because the Muslim terrorists will not stop blowing people up, Iraqi and American, and anybody who is on the side of stopping the Muslim terrorism.
Our being there has already changed the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people. They are grateful for the overthrow of the former dictatorship. They have tons of freedoms now that were formerly unimaginable. The US media has not nor does not publicize the good that is coming from this campaign. It is a shame. Watch Fox news, NOT ABC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, etc. They are totally bent over broken backwards liberal, and will not report anything good about the war. Also, if you personally know a war vet who has come home, talk with him/her about how well they were treated by the Iraqi people, and how grateful the citizens of Iraq are now for the allied occupation.

WOW...typical uninformed comments...period!
(1) Following 9-11 both Republicans and Democrats supported the invasion of Iraq, they also both agreed in unison that Saddam has and have been using WMD's for sometime, even before 9-11. Agreeing in attacking Iraq is key to the interest of the US and the World at-large.
(2) The information given by intelligence agencies was not only given by the US, but other countries as well, including the UN Security Council.
(3) The war in Iraq was not started overnight begining on 9-12, it took nearly a year and half before the US and allies went in. Still offering Saddam an opportunity to comply with UN requests to allow inspections to resume on its allegations of WMD's. He continued to refuse and thumbed all that requested that endeavor. Including the grand ole Russia and China.
(4) Following the overthrowing of Iraq's government and up until they found Saddam cowering in a rat hole and was brought to justice and hung for dead, Events in Iraq has changed drastically, Iran and its clerics were and are still planning to create an all-out-war in that region based on controlling the region by it's black blood (oil).
(5) Iran continues to support insurgents and have been caught many times, but it is always downplayed by Iran and others supporting Iran, including our own Democratic party of the US. This effort is to break the back of the camel so to say, and bring the US into a war that will economically remove the US from its super power status, thereby giving Russia that next in line that title and power. Iran is so stupid that they know that they will have killed their own people by getting into a war with the US, and only Russia will be the beneficiary of this war. Iran knows the the US military and its Air Forces is far more superior for any country to handle, including Russia and China.
I could go on but see no reason to, most has either made up their minds about it or blinded their own views by way of being overly compasionate for those screaming injustice, because American support for it is at a all time high. But, it doesn't matter what anyone says, before the end of next year either the US or Isreal or both will open a bombing campaign on Iran - its inevitable. This will be the day when all countries will be brought to its knees, even if it damages the US economics our foriegn policies will change to accomodate that need to re-supply our funding by taking properties of those involved. This will be the new America that all will see and have to adapt to and they are all afraid of that happening. Thus, struggling to discredit the US even by using US anti-war activist and Democratic voices more and more.
GUESS WHAT ? IT Will Happpen And For Good Reason.
And for those who want to talk about occupation how long have we been in South Korea protecting them from the unstable North? Crazy reasoning from those who say's our occupation is solely on oil alone, so what is the reasoning for the occupation in Korea? Is it alright to all of you to occupy one to help another and abandon one who really needs the help right now. And are not timid to say so. Lets all get logical and informed so our country will survive and prosper in this world. Also for those whom keep repeating that the WMD's was not the reason for this war, failed to come to grip that their own Democratic party must have duped them also, because it took congressional approval to go to war. So don't flinch shove the blame to all who have created the war, not just our President George W Bush.
